Get on Set.

Get On Set (GOS) is a film training partnership. Each year Local Cinema Studios partners with the South Carolina Film commission and the University of South Carolina to produce a feature length film or pilot in South Carolina. Our team brings a collective 50+ years of experience in film, a $100K+ budget, and connections throughout the film industry. We partner with Southeast filmmakers that have captivating new feature films or pilots that we can help bring to life.

What makes GOS unique is that we specialize in producing professional level projects that pair industry professionals in key roles to lead and teach student interns. This provides an opportunity to grow the South Carolina film workforce while creating films that highlight stories of the regional areas.

Keep an eye on our announcements via social media @localcinemastudios for crew and casting calls! We hire both industry professionals, current students (you can use GOS as an internship credit), and recent graduates - getting a jump start to your career in film.

We get emerging filmmakers on set and forever change their lives

Goals of Get on Set:

  • Connect South Carolina university students and recent graduates onto this professional hands on environment.

  • Provide hands-on education and mentorship to prepare them for meaningful roles on set.

  • Produce an annual feature film or pilot episode—often in the summer, giving creative camp vibes.

  • Champion emerging artists and unique voices, helping their stories reach wide audiences.

  • Employ South Carolina filmmakers in the majority of the roles.

  • Host project development workshops to cultivate new ideas and collaborations during development + preproduction.

  • Transform lives and launch careers in the film industry.

For people interested in film, life after graduation can be challenging.

Many students who “break into the industry” have close family or friends in the industry with money that can finance their efforts. Or they enter the industry as Production Assistants where they gain little to no experience in crew experiences on set.

Local Cinema studios focuses on changing that. We emphasize getting students from all backgrounds on set in critical roles as crew and cast where they can grow their skills and gain experience for the future.

Local Cinema Studios films offers paid internships for students and recent graduates in all areas across the film: production / business, camera, grip and electric, sound, and acting. Key roles in each production are filled with mentorship minded industry professionals. We have a holistic approach where we teach students how to fulfill their role, advocate for themselves, and manage their mental health through long days of production.

Students who have interned on Local Cinema projects have gone on to work on large budget feature films, such as Outlaws with Whoopi Goldberg, with the knowledge and connections they made on set.
